Getting Sh*t done: Career Edition!

Invitation to Getting Sh*t Done: Career Edition, June 24, 2018
On June 24, 2018, the Empow(Her) Network hosted an intensive professional development afternoon and evening followed by a networking session with some of the City’s coolest professional women from diverse backgrounds! The afternoon included:
  • Help with your LinkedIn profile, and resume;
  • Tips & tricks on negotiating your salary;
  • A panel of accomplished women in their fields.
This event was made possible thanks to support from the Paul Yuzyk Grant at Heritage Canada and the 613/819 Black Hub. We always strongly encourage young female-identifying individuals from all industries, career paths, students, women of colour, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ to join us at our events.

Speed date your mentor

4 women mentors

On October 24, 2016, participants joined us at City Hall for an informal evening of discussion and advice with Ottawa City councillor Catherine McKenney, consultant Elaine Larsen, podcast host Mai Ngo, and artist-researcher-educator Melanie Yugo.

Didn’t get to attend? Here are some of the takeaways from our inspiring mentors!

"Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist. If you're passionate about an idea, just go for it!"

Melanie Yugo
Artist-researcher-educator

"I've always relied on asking questions to those further along than me. It helps me to set realistic expectations about what a career is."

Elaine Larsen
Consultant

"Know how to work with your communities and bring different perspectives together."

Catherine McKenney
City Councillor, City of Ottawa
"Make your own table, be in your own race, and grab the opportunity when you see it. Focus on your strengths!"
Mai Ngo
Podcast host
